QINGDAO, June 5 (ChinaMil) — Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) Anzac Class frigate HMNZS Te Kaha (F77) arrived at a naval port in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China’s Shandong province on the morning of June 2 for a six-day visit to Qingdao.
The North China Sea Fleet of the Chinese PLA Navy held a welcoming ceremony at the pier for the visiting RNZN frigate, which was met at sea by the guided-missile destroyer Shenyang of the North China Sea Fleet before arriving at the naval port.
A delegation headed by Chief of the Royal New Zealand Navy Rear Admiral John Martin arrived in Qingdao on June 1 to start visit to the PLA Navy’s North China Sea Fleet. Commander of the North China Sea Fleet Rear Admiral Zhang Wendan held a welcoming ceremony for Rear Admiral John Martin and met with the delegation members at the headquarters of the fleet.
Martin and his delegation visited the PLA Navy Submarine Academy in Qingdao and toured the destroyer Shenyang and a submarine of the North China Sea Fleet.
The commanding officers of the Te Kaha call on leaders of the Staff Headquarters of the North China Fleet and the Qingdao Municipal Government respectively. Sailors of the two navies also visited each other’s ships and carried out cultural and sports exchanges.
At the end of its visit to Qingdao, the New Zealand’s frigate Te Kaha will hold a joint drill with the Chinese destroyer Shenyang at the waters off Qingdao.
