China, US vow to further exchange of navies

BEIJING, August 26 (ChinaMil) — Adm. Wu Shengli, commander of the PLA Navy, held video talks on invitation with Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) of the United States Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert and Adm. John M. Richardson, who is currently director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program on Tuesday night. They exchanged views on deepening the relations of mil-to-mil pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between navies of the two countries.
Adm. John M. Richardson is to succeed Adm. Jonathan Greenert as the next Chief of Naval Operations (CNO).
Wu Shengli listed the achievements made by the Chinese and American navies in building a new pattern of navy relationship under the guidance of a new model of China-US major country relationship jointly advocated by the leaders of the two countries, as evidenced by the historical breakthroughs in such fields as high-level contacts, maritime joint exercises and training, as well as interactions between front-line officers and soldiers.
Smooth communication between the leading naval officials constitutes the most important foundation of developing friendly relations between navies of the two countries, said Adm. Wu, adding that it is also the most direct way to work out differences and clear up misunderstandings between the two navies.
The PLA Navy Commander hopes to continue to maintain with Adm. Richardson the close working relations which have been established between him and Adm. Greenert, for the purpose of further pushing forward the pragmatic exchange and cooperation between the two navies in various areas including down-to-earth implementation of the Code of Safe Conduct on Naval and Air Military Encounters, exchange of warship visits, joint exercises and training, communication between front-line commanding officers, jointly writing a new chapter of the China-U.S naval relationship.
Adm. Greenert reviewed the results made by the navies of the two countries in enhancing mutual trust in recent years, praising the China-U.S. naval relations as the model among the naval relations in the world.
Adm. Greenert also expressed his willingness to continue to push forward the pragmatic exchange and cooperation between the two navies in the future.
Adm. Richardson stressed that he is looking forward to establishing good working relationship with leaders of the Chinese Navy and writing a new chapter of development of the relations between the American and Chinese navies based on the existing foundation.
