BEIJING, Mar. 14 (ChinaMil) — There have been more speculations on DPRK’s (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) powerful sixth nuclear test before a large-scale military drill between the US (United States of America) and ROK (Republic of Korea).
“North Korea has 62 percent likely to conduct a nuclear test or a missile test in the next 30 days,” Yonhap News Agency said on the March 13. This judgment is predicted based on analysis of big data from the US think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
DPRK is doing missile test while the US and ROK are busy with a large-scale exercise and the deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), said the Indian web portal Livemint on March 13.
Northeast Asia now is the most dangerous place on earth due to the possibility of a nuclear war and the recent events fully proved that this judgment is of great relevance, the report said.
The DPRK nuclear issue will be the focus during U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s upcoming visit to the region this week, said Los Angeles Times. Tillerson will begin his first visit to Japan, ROK and China on Wednesday, opening a six-day trip to Asia.
The DPRK nuclear issue will become an important topic. He will face a series of choices, including dialogue with DPRK, additional sanctions, and even a pre-emptive strike. It is still not known what kind of fresh ideas can the Trump administration bring.
Watanabe Tsuneo, a Japanese political analyst, said that no US president has come up with a meaningful plan. He added that the deployment of THAAD angered Beijing.
Officials of the Foreign Ministry of ROK said on March 13 that the talks between Tillerson and ROK’s foreign minister on March 17 in Seoul will focus on the issues of THAAD.
Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho of ROK said on March 13 that they do not have firm evidence that China has retaliated for Seoul’s deployment of a US missile defense system, so no action has been taken against Beijing, Reuters reported.
“Imagine if over two thousand Chinese troops were stationed in Mexico. Imagine that alongside these troops were F-16 fighter jets and A-10 fighter bombers. Imagine that in addition, the Mexican army had purchased a huge stockpile of Aegis Destroyers and other military hardware from China. Imagine then, in such a context, China announced it was installing a high-tech missile defense system costing billions of dollars in Mexico, close to the U.S. border,” said the website of Center for Research on Globalization on March 13.
The report said that under such circumstances there would be massive outcry, not just from the U.S. government, but the population at large.
The American media presents a situation as if China is being unreasonable in objecting to the deployment of THAAD system, and then somehow “bullying” Korean businesses with “unofficial sanctions.” This simply ignores reality, said the report.
