PLA Air Force Commander Meets with Iranian Counterpart

BEIJING, November 2 (ChinaMil) — Ma Xiaotian, member of China’s Central Military Commission and commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, met with Hassan Shah Safi, commander of the Iranian Air Force, in Beijing on November 2, 2015.

Ma Xiaotian extended warm welcome to Shah Safi’s visit to China. He said that Iran has a long history and has contributed to world civilization. Ma expressed that China and Iraq understand and support each other on concerns related to each other’s core interests. The signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) opened up a new situation for Iran to strengthen cooperation and expand exchange with the world, including China.

Ma also stressed that the military-to-military relations between the two countries have developed smoothly and the two militaries have good communication and cooperation for a long time. China is willing to work with Iraq to carry out pragmatic cooperation and push forward the continuous development of bilateral military relations. China also expects a higher level of cooperation between the two air forces, Ma added.

Shah Safi thanked China for its invitation and hospitality. He said that China has made remarkable achievements in recent years. Iran attaches great importance to developing the traditional friendly relations between the two armed forces and the two countries.

He also said that Iran will take advantage of the comprehensive agreement of its nuclear issue to continue to expand exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, the two armed forces and the two air forces.

Before the meeting, Ma Xiaotian hosted a welcoming ceremony and accompanied Shah Safi to inspect the guard of honor, and also briefed his Iranian counterpart on the PLA Air Force.

Shah Safi was invited by Ma Xiaotian to visit China from November 1 to 6.
